Universal has acquired rights to Ken Kalfus' short story "Night and Day You Are the One" and inked Jon Bokenkamp to adapt for Bobker/Kruger Films.
Deal is the banner's first since Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger hung their shingle on the U lot. "Night," their lead project, will be overseen at Universal by Holly Bario.
Company has also been expanding headcount, including the addition of senior VP Mark Stein, who joins from Kopelson Entertainment, where he was a VP.
"Night and Day," one of the stories from Kalfus book "Thirst," is a Manhattan-set thriller following a man who can't tell the difference between his dreams and reality. After witnessing a murder, he has to figure out what's real and what's not.
Bokenkamp's most recent credit is "Taking Lives." He also adapted Michael Connelly's novel "Chasing the Dime" for MGM.
Kruger and Bobker formed their company last fall after teaming to script and produce Terry Gilliam's "The Brothers Grimm" for Dimension, skedded for release July 29, and thriller "Skeleton Key," which U will bow Aug. 12.
Kruger also wrote DreamWorks' "The Ring Two," which bows on March 18, after penning the original adaptation of "The Ring."
In addition to Stein, Jessica Shulman joins the shingle as a creative exec after stints in the literary and talent departments at Endeavor and Paradigm. Also, Sarah Scott has been tapped story editor after working in development at Stone Village Pictures.
