Cabler goes for 'S.L.U.T.'

New 'Generation' for HBO Films

HBO Films is developing "Generation S.L.U.T.," Marty Beckerman's dark tale of promiscuity and emotional detachment among contemporary teenagers. Miguel Arteta ("The Good Girl") is expected to direct.

Jason Blum, who has a first-look deal with HBO, is producing with Amy Slotnick. Matthew Greenfield, Arteta's producing partner, will be a co-producer.

Arteta is developing the script with the screenwriting team of Abdi Nazemian and Micah Schraft.

HBO declined to comment on "Generation S.L.U.T.," Beckerman's acronym for Sexually Liberated Urban Teens. Beckerman details unnerving contemporary attitudes toward gun violence, sexual assault, parenting and suicide in a brutal high-school social scene.

Arteta's attached to direct "Date School," a DreamWorks comedy Red Hour is producing with Contrafilm.

Blum and Amy Israel produced the HBO telepic "Hysterical Blindness," helmed by Mira Nair and starring Uma Thurman, who won a Golden Globe for her perf.

Blum's also a producer on "The Darwin Awards," HBO's "The Fever" (based on Wallace Shawn's play of that name) and Chris Iovenko's "Easy Six."

Paramount and Nick Movies have tapped Nazemian and Schraft to pen the script for "Family Jewels," a remake of the 1965 Jerry Lewis comedy (Daily Variety, Feb. 9).
