In addition, teen thesp Ryan Pinkston has inked for the lead role.
Producer Mark Canton has tapped Relativity Media to raise funds for the pic, which is believed to have a budget of close to $15 million.
New Line is expected to kick in less than half the budget in return for U.S. and Canuck rights.
International distribution will be handled by Arclight Films.
Relativity is close to concluding raising funds and production is set to start in May with eyes toward a 2006 release.
Pic is being produced by Canton's Atmosphere MM. Script was first bought by Canton's former company, Artists Production Group, in 2002 for $500,000 against $1 million and was soon thereafter set up at New Line.
Originally penned by Yoni Berkovits and Tony Dreannan, and later worked on by several scribes, it's being shot with a new draft written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
In the pic, Pinkston ("Quintuplets," "Punk'd") plays a teen forced to live out a series of elaborate lies he told to impress popular kids.
Pic is being helmed by "Comedian" documaker Christian Charles.
Canton and partner Bernie Goldmann are producing, with Atmosphere's Steve Barnett and Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh and Lynwood Spinks serving as exec producers. Mark Kaufman and Matt Moore will oversee the project for New Line.
It will be the second film to go into production for Atmosphere MM, following George Romero's "Land of the Dead."
Company was formed in 2003 out of the assets of Artists Production Group and Canton Co., with coin provided by Daedalus Media Fund.
