NEW YORK -- "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria is in final negotiations to play an up-and-coming secret agent in Outlook Pictures and Furthur Films' "The Sentinel," starring Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Basinger.
Pic, based on the novel by former Secret Service agent Gerald Petievich, is being financed by Outlook with Regency Enterprises and 20th Century Fox, which will also distribute.
"SWAT" helmer Clark Johnson is attached to direct.
Douglas is already attached to play a Secret Service agent enmeshed in a furtive affair with the first lady (Basinger). When another agent is murdered, Douglas becomes a suspect and is caught up in what may be a plot to assassinate the president. Sutherland plays Douglas' protege.
"Sentinel" will lense in Toronto in May with Furthur's Douglas and Marcy Drogin producing, along with Outlook.
George Nolfi ("Ocean's Twelve") penned the screenplay.
Longoria's ABC hit "Housewives" recently won two Golden Globes, including comedy series, and took comedy series ensemble kudos at the SAG Awards on Saturday.
