On Feb. 24 the
MPAA will hold its 12th
annual Oscar Week Scholarship luncheon to honor young filmmakers at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Each year student filmmakers who demonstrate vision and technical talent are selected to receive monetary awards that can be used toward their tuition and for financing their projects. The 2004 scholarship recipients include Colleen Yorke, June Park, Shashwata Chaterjee, Henry Dhuy, Renee McClellan, Gregers Heering, Adam Schlacther, Sandra M. Valde and Cecelia Parker.

The
Intl. Channel has announced plans to rebrand and reprogram. Move will focus channel exclusively on the Asian American audience and is intended to attract new advertisers. All programming in European and Middle Eastern languages will be removed by the start of the second quarter.
Overhaul will see an expansion of English-accessible, Asian-themed programming.

Film and Music Entertainment has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to "
Waking up Dead," which will go out domestically through subsid Celebration Pictures.
The feature length docu helmed by Fabio Jafet over a four-year period follows the life of Phil Varone, former drummer for rock bands Saigon Kick and Skid Row.

Cinematographer
Vittorio Storaro has been named as the second recipient of the
Coolidge Award. It will be presented at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline, Mass., in April. The prize, instituted last year when it was given to director Zhang Yimou, comes with an unrestricted $10,000 stipend.
