Ward's decision is a stunner: She has a client roster any publicist would envy and probably the strongest director list of any single publicist in Hollywood.
Ward reps Quentin Tarantino, Sofia Coppola, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, Marc Forster, Tony Scott, Stephen Gaghan, James Mangold, Mira Nair, Tim Burton and Paul Thomas Anderson.
There will be an inevitable stampede among rival firms to sign her clients, but Ward said she will help each one transition to new representation. She is also determined to help her small staff find jobs.
Ward, who came from London in 1987 and started Bumble Ward & Associates in 1991, will shutter her agency right after the Oscars.
She will remain somewhat active on a consulting level with certain clients like Coppola, who is prepping the Kirsten Dunst starrer "Marie Antoinette" for Sony and Pathe. But after spending years working full-time to boost awareness of the creations of her clients, Ward finally made the hard decision to indulge her own creative aspirations.
Ward has been writing fiction in her spare time for a while, and it gradually became a passion. She has not been published.
PR is a time-intensive service business, and while Ward said she loved her clients, she realized that she would never give writing a fair shake if she had to drop everything when a client needed her.
"I discovered writing is where my heart is, and I am going to give it a shot," she said.
