Badja D'jola

Actor

Actor Badja D'jola died Jan. 8 in Los Angeles of a heart attack. He was 56.

Best known for his roles in "Penitentiary," "Hurricane," "A Rage in Harlem," "Player's Club," "Rosewood," "Mississippi Burning," "X-Files" and "Innocent Man," D'jola was also a playwright, poet, musician and historian, as well as an African drummer and dancer. He also guested on TV shows including "Chicago Hope," "NYPD Blue," "The X Files" and "The Fugitive."

In 1984, D'jola received a Dramalogue Award for Best Actor for his role in "Edmond."

D'jola is survived by his mother.
