here! Films nabs 'Inconscientes'

MADRID -- Indie production and distribution company here! Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Spaniard Joaquin Oristrell's Sundance World Drama Competition player "Inconscientes" (Unconscious).

The Spanish-lingo "Unconscious" is sold by Spanish sales consortium Latido. Set in Barcelona in 1913, the romantic adventure drama toplines Leonor Watling ("Talk to Her") as a thoroughly modern Freud buff who enrolls the aid of her besotted brother-in-law (Luis Tosar from "Take My Eyes" and "Mondays In the Sun") to track down her psychiatrist husband.

Pic is based on a screenplay by Oristrell and up-and-coming screenwriting duo Teresa De Pelegri and Dominic Harari. It is produced by Spain's Tornasol Films and Messidor Films, and Uli Felsberg and Denise Booth.

"Unconscious" has already sold to Italy, Benelux and Portugal and, off its American Film Market screening, a spread of Latin American territories including Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.

The acquisitions and theatrical distribution arm of here! Networks, here! Films will open "Unconscious" in the U.S. in the fall.

Deal was concluded by Mark Reinhart, exec v.p. of distribution and acquisitions at here! Films, and Latido head Max Saidel.

Here! Films acquisitions in 2004 included "Beautiful Boxer," Franco Zeffirelli's "Callas Forever," and "Merci Docteur Rey," an Ismail Merchant and James Ivory production.
