Kiarostami
PARIS -- Abbas Kiarostami will preside over the Cannes Film Festival jury awarding the Camera d'Or for first film.
Like Emir Kusturica, named president of the festival's main jury on Wednesday, the Iranian helmer is a Cannes regular. He won the Palme d'Or in 1997 for "Taste of Cherries," which shared the prize with Shohei Imamura's "The Eel."
Kiarostami has also served on the main jury and on the Cinefondation and short films jury.
His other Cannes appearances include "Under the Olive Trees," in Competition in 1994; "ABC Africa," screened out of competition in 2001; "Ten" in Competition in 2002; and last year, "10 on Ten" in Un Certain Regard and "Five" out of competition.
He also penned Jafar Panahi's "Crimson Gold," screened in Un Certain Regard in 2003.
Kiarostami's latest film, "Ticket," co-directed by Ken Loach and Ermanno Olmi, will screen out of competition at the Berlin Film Festival.
