Project reteams the director with "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" producer David Heyman.
Pic will be a co-production between Heyman's Heyday Films and Cuaron's untitled shingle, which he staked to a three-year first-look deal at WB late last year. Heyman and Cuaron will produce with Frida Torresblanco.
"The History of Love," to be published in May by W.W. Norton, tells the story of a long-lost book that mysteriously reappears and connects an old man searching for his son with a girl seeking a cure for her mother's loneliness.
Catalyst for the deal was Rose Alison, the U.K.-based production exec for Heyday. She brought the project to Heyman after writing a fan letter to the author. Krauss read it and Lynn Pleshette was soon making the deal.
WB execs Lionel Wigram and Lynn Harris will steer the pic.
"It's a book that requires real tenderness without being overly sentimental, and that is something Alfonso does very well," Heyman said.
In addition to the "Potter" franchise, Heyman is producing the pilot "Threshold" at CBS, with Brannon Braga exec producing; the Steve Kloves-directed "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," with Plan B; and Christopher Nolan-directed "The Exec" with Emma Thomas and Akiva Goldsman.
