Efanel goes live for XM

With the acquisition, past events expected to air

HOLLYWOOD -- XM Satellite Radio is expanding its selection of live events by acquiring Efanel, which produces remote broadcasts of concerts and awards shows.

Companies have worked together previously on live broadcasts of a Phish concert and the finale of Bruce Springsteen's John Kerry-boosting Vote for Change tour.

Efanel has also broadcast concerts for U2, Madonna and the Dave Matthews Band, as well as the Grammys and MTV Video Music Awards. With the acquisition, those and many other live events are expected to air on XM.

Efanel will continue to service other clients as a subsidiary of XM, though likely not satcasting competitor Sirius.

Financial details of the acquisition weren't disclosed. XM shares closed up slightly Tuesday at $35.69.
