Travis takes Col's 'Point'

Helmer selected after win at Toronto Film Fest

Pete Travis is making a deal to direct "Vantage Point" for Neal Moritz's Original shingle at Columbia.

Last fall, Col bought the Barry L. Levy spec script for mid-six figures against $1 million. "Rashomon"-style thriller depicts the attempted assassination of the president from five different points of view.

Moritz is producing; Original's Tania Landau exec produces. Andrea Giannetti and Adam Milano are overseeing for Col.

After talking to several A-list directors, Original picked Travis, a Toronto Film Festival prizewinner for his pic "Omagh."

An Irish-U.K. co-production, "Omagh" concerns the 1998 Irish Republican Army bombing that killed 29 people in the eponymous market town.

Moritz is in production on "XXX: State of the Union" for Revolution. His actioner "Stealth," directed by Rob Cohen and produced with Mike Medavoy and Laura Ziskin, is due out this summer via Sony.
