Lee's goal: doing the Brazilian soccer thing

Principal photography skedded for November

Spike Lee and Paolo Sadri of new Miami-based shingle TMG Films will exec produce "The Goal," a Brazilian soccer pic starring Mario Lopez.

Principal photography is skedded for November in Rio de Janeiro and Miami. Pic's scribe Art Sims will make "The Goal" his directorial debut.

Budgeted at $16 million, the film will also star Brazil's world-class soccer team. "We are also considering Enrique Iglesias for a role," Sadri told Daily Variety. Other thesps under consideration include Ricky Martin, Sting, Sonia Braga and Javier Bardem.

"The Goal" tracks the life of a young man who rises from the bowels of Rio's infamous hillside slums (favelas) to become the No. 1 soccer player in the world. He is traded to the U.S. when tragedy strikes while playing during the Brazilian championship.

Soccer-themed project is one of many under way, led most notably by $100 million soccer trilogy "Goal," starring Diego Luna and David Beckham.
