Braun Entertainment Group will produce the pic, with Donald Martin ("Family Sins") already attached to write the script. Zev Braun and Philip Krupp ("Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills") will exec produce the pic, which will detail Frey's relationship with the convicted murderer.
Frey's book, "Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson," is already No. 2 on Amazon.com's bestseller list after just a few days in release. Further evidence of viewer interest in the case: Monday's "Dateline NBC," which featured an interview with Frey, gave the newsmag its best numbers in three years.
"Having the rights to her life story, as well as her book, provides an opportunity to tell new dimensions of the story and give viewers a personal look into one of the most notorious crimes of the past decade," said CBS senior VP of longform Bela Bajaria.
CBS wouldn't discuss a production timetable for the project, though past true-crime projects at various webs have often been turned around quickly. ABC developed and produced a telepic about the Pennsylvania miners' rescue in barely four months back in 2002.
