Col, Ferrell having fun in the sun

Colpix warms up to 'Bronze'

Columbia has tapped Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck to script "Bronze God," a comedy vehicle for Will Ferrell.

Thesp will play a lifeguard who realizes his dream by securing a wildcard entry into a beach volleyball tournament.

Jimmy Miller and Julie Darmody will produce through the Gold/Miller banner. Col execs Jonathan Kaden and Matt Tolmach will steer the project, which was set up on the basis of a pitch.

"Will's about the funniest guy out there, and he's even funnier shirtless, in a Speedo and with a savage tan," said Gregory.

Huyck said Ferrell is easy to root for -- a necessity in an underdog story.

The scribes have writing and producing credits on "The Late Show With David Letterman," "Frasier" and "The Larry Sanders Show." They are developing "Back to Reality," a single-camera comedy for ABC and Brad Grey TV that will be shot to look like a reality series. "Bronze God" is their first feature.
