Klores hangs out Moon banner

Helmer launches prod'n shingle

NEW YORK -- Having seen his first two directorial efforts crack the competitive Sundance roster, veteran PR pro Dan Klores is launching Shoot the Moon Prods. to produce film, TV and legit projects.

Shoot the Moon's slate includes Klores' third outing as a helmer, "Viva Baseball," which is in production for Spike TV. Pic centers on the struggles and conflicts of Latinos on the diamond.

"Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story," co-helmed by Klores and Ron Berger, was picked last month for the Sundance docu competition. Pic explores the tumultuous life of boxing champ Griffith and follows up the helming duo's previous Park City-bound entry, 2003's "The Boys of 2nd Street Park," which aired on Showtime.

"We've been on a little bit of a roll," said Klores of the new shingle's launch, "which feels very nice." Most of the company's projects "will be things I'll direct," he added.

Klores has been passionate about sports stories, and Tribeca-based Shoot the Moon's slate includes a biopic of Leo Durocher, the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants baseball manager who famously declared, "Nice guys finish last."

Another feature project in development for Klores to helm is a drama based on the lives of Burt and Linda Pugash, a couple who shared an obsessive relationship that ended in one partner blinding the other.

Klores, whose previous producing credits include Paul Simon's Broadway tuner "The Capeman" and Warner Bros.' "City by the Sea," has penned an upcoming Off Broadway show, "Little Doc," for Naked Angels Theater Company.

Dan Klores Communications has repped clients including Jay Leno, MTV, VH1, Showtime, Madison Square Garden, Island Def Jam, Miramax, Sean Combs, Harper Collins, GreeneStreet Films and Jean Doumanian Prods. Variety is a former client.
