Gartner, Sarkissian producing sports script

Alec Baldwin is in negotiations to star as the coach in the basketball pic "Street," which Michael Shapiro is directing at MGM.

Baldwin was also just added to the cast of Sony's "Fun With Dick and Jane," which he's filming now. "Street" will be his next project. Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni topline "Fun." Dean Parisot is directing, and Brian Grazer is producing.

"Street" follows a group of street basketball players recruited to play for an NBA team whose owner has slashed player salaries.

Scribes Matt O'Neil and Chris Parker penned the script.

Former MGM production prexy cum producer Alex Gartner is producing with Arthur Sarkissian ("Rush Hour"). JC Spink and Chris Bender are exec producing. MGM execs Toby Jaffe, Eric Paquette and Pete Chiarelli are overseeing development for the studio.

Baldwin stars in Miramax's "The Aviator," which will be released next week. He recently wrapped Cameron Crowe's "Elizabethtown" at Par, also starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst.
