Pic, based on a script Kessler wrote with David Zabel, will mark Kessler's directorial debut. Story concerns a 17-year-old who thinks she's got it all figured out until she falls for a guy who has nothing to lose.
No Hands quickly teamed up with Furst Films partners Bryan and Sean Furst, who will help secure financing. The Furst brothers, whose credits include "The Cooler" and "The Matador," will become producers with Kessler and Goldstein.
Miramax retains an option to co-finance the film, but the transaction was made in the expectation that Harvey and Bob Weinstein will exit the studio. Several projects will likely go back to creative principals as the studio seeks to trim its costs.
"We wanted to offer the producers a chance to realize what for them is a passion project," said a Miramax spokesman, who declined to elaborate on how many other projects will be dealt back to filmmakers.
Furst Films just produced UA pic "The Woods." It is prepping "First Snow," with Guy Pearce, for El Camino Pictures; a February start date is planned.
