Sony BMG lays off, regroups

Branch offices will close in D.C., Boston.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment will lay off 150-175 employees as it consolidates U.S. sales offices and shutters two.

Branch offices are being closed in Washington, D.C., and Boston. In cities where Sony and BMG had separate sales and distribution offices -- New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis and Los Angeles -- operations are being consolidated.

"With the integration of the Sony and BMG distribution companies, there has been some duplication, and as a result a number of positions have been eliminated," Sony BMG Music Entertainment Sales said in a statement.
