Wright, McNally to whip up projects for institute
|
Wright is penning the book to the musical "Grey Gardens," based on the 1976 doc of the same name, about real life relatives of Jackie Kennedy living in a crumbling East Hampton mansion. Scott Frankel will compose, Michael Korie is writing lyrics and Michael Greif directs.
McNally is writing "Some Men," a play with music in which guests at a contemporary same-sex wedding reflect on their lives and the lives of other gay men in New York City over the last century. Philip Himberg, the Institute's producing artistic director, will helm.
The Theater Lab at White Oak is an extension of the Institute's annual Theater Lab in Utah, where Wright developed "I Am My Own Wife" in 2000. That play which won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for best play earlier this year.
The Howard Gilman Foundation is a partner in the White Oak program, which focuses on ensemble-developed work and musical theater.
