Project is one of several being developed by Taja under his new production and management label, Epidemic Pictures.
The original "Set It Off" starred Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Vivica Fox in the story of an all-girl gang of bank robbers.
Latifah, who will produce with her Flavor Unit Entertainment partner Shakim Compere, is also expected to take a role in the pic.
Taja has also raised independent financing for "Cabrini Gardens," an urban romantic comedy he wrote with Brett Gardner and David Odom. Gardner will make his feature-directing bow, with plans to begin shooting by year's end.
Upcoming for Taja is "The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing," which he'll produce with Odd Lot Entertainment for Warner Independent Pictures.
Upcoming Epidemic titles include New Line's "King's Ransom," which stars Anthony Anderson and Jay Mohr. It's slated for release March 4.
Epidemic's development slate includes "32 and Single" at Universal Pictures, New Line's "Slay the Bully" and Fox Searchlight's "Say Uncle."
Before launching Epidemic, Taja was senior VP at Catch 23 Entertainment.
Joining Taja at Epidemic is creative exec Matthew Kosoy, who worked with Taja on "King's Ransom."
