On Nov. 24, the day Oliver Stone's feature "Alexander" premieres, Discovery will carry primetime special "Alexander the Great: Murder Unsolved?" Discovery has also scheduled two more hourlong specials airing back to back at 9 p.m. three nights earlier: "Battleground, The Art of War: Alexander the Great" and "Becoming Alexander."
In "Murder Unsolved," forensic pathologists, archaeologists and historians explore the various accounts of how Alexander died at 32. Some scholars point to his heavy drinking, some to a fatal bout with malaria and others to a group of conspirators who slowly poisoned the warrior king. Anthony Geffen is exec producer for Atlantic Prods.
"Battleground, The Art of War" delves into the revolutionary military strategy Alexander devised to conquer the imperial Persian Empire despite being outnumbered more than five to one. Gary Tarpanian and Paninee Theeranuntawat are exec producers for Morningstar Prods.
"Becoming Alexander" focuses on Colin Farrell, as he studies and trains for the role of Alexander in the movie. Spec comes from Diverse Prods. Leonie Jameson is exec producer.
