BBC unit secures Asian distrib deal

BBC Worldwide has inked its first Asian distribution deal for BBC Prime, it announced Friday, the last day of the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Assn. of Asia confab here.

Entertainment channel developed for Asia will air on PCCW's Now Broadband service starting Dec. 1 in Hong Kong.

Now Broadband offers 61 channels and had 316,000 subscribers as of June.

The service also won the Casbaa chairman's award for outstanding contribution to the Asia Pacific cable, satellite and broadband pay TV industries in the past year.
