Euro faces will beam at AFI Fest

Antal, Salmenperae, Toivonen among selected 10

European Film Promotion in collaboration with AFI Fest 2004 is launching New Faces in European Cinema.

Hungarian helmer Nimrod Antal ("Kontroll"), Finish helmer Aleksi Salmenperae ("Producing Adults") and Finish thesp Kari-Pekka Toivonen are among the 10 selected from each of the European countries participating in the inaugural event, to showcase Europe's emerging directors and actors.

A network of 22 promotion and export agencies from 23 European countries, EFP collaborates on an annual basis with festivals in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Pusan and Toronto in order to bring European cinema, and the talent behind it, to the attention of the international press, industry and public.

Filmmakers are scheduled to attend the screenings of their films and participate in Q&As during the 18th annual AFI Fest, Nov. 4-14.

Partnering with EFP on this initiative are the consulates of Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland, the Embassy of Estonia, the Danish Film Institute, ICAA (Spain) and ThinkFilm (U.S.).

The New Faces in European Cinema are:

Nimrod Antal, Hungary, director of "Kontroll"
Lieven Debrauwer, Belgium, director of "Sweet Jam" (Confituur)
Teresa Hurtado, Spain, actress in "Astronauts," by Santi Amodeo
Martin Koolhoven, the Netherlands, director of "South" (Het Zuiden)
Anna Luif, Switzerland, director of "Little Girl Blue"
Rene Reinumaegi, Estonia, director of "Revolution of Pigs" (Sigade Revolutsioon)
Bjoern Runge, Sweden, director of "Daybreak" ("Om jag vaender mig om")
Paprika Steen, Denmark, director of "Aftermath"
Kari-Pekka Toivonen, Finland, actor in "Producing Adults," by Aleksi Salmenperae
Mennan Yapo, Germany, director of "Soundless" (Lautlos)
