CEO stocking up on Viv U

Company sez Fourtou currently holds 185,629 shares

Vivendi Universal CEO Jean-Rene Fourtou seems to have confidence in the future of his company.

The exec informed his board of directors earlier this week that he plans to buy shares in Viv U for his personal account and may double his stake in coming days, the company announced Thursday.

Fourtou currently holds 185,629 Vivendi shares, the company said. The stock Thursday fell 17¢ to close at e20.63 ($25.65) in Paris. At that price, Fourtou's purchase could total $4.8 million.

Vivendi, owner of Universal Music and French pay channel Canal Plus, said Sept. 14 that its second-quarter loss widened on costs related to the sale of U.S. assets to General Electric and on slumping sales of videogames.

Viv U said Wednesday that it may pay a dividend next year of at least 60¢ per share -- the first payout to investors in three years.
