Linney in line for 'Exorcism'

Thesps prep for devilish pic

Laura Linney and Tom Wilkinson are set to star in "The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel," a drama inspired by true events that will be directed by Scott Derrickson for Screen Gems.

Derrickson wrote the script with Paul Boardman; the pic is a co-production between Firm Films and Lakeshore.

Linney will play an attorney who defends a Catholic priest (Wilkinson) who has been charged with the negligent homicide of a 19-year-old girl whose exorcism he presided over. The case reawakens faith in the lawyer. Shooting begins in November in Vancouver.

Tom Rosenberg is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tripp Vinson and Beau Flynn. Julie Yorn and David McIlvain are exec producers.

Screen Gems prexy Clint Culpepper is overseeing the film.

Firm Films just wrapped the Rob Zombie-directed "The Devil's Rejects" for Lions Gate.

Linney has two films coming out this fall. She starred alongside Topher Grace in the Dylan Kidd-directed "P.S.," and opposite Liam Neeson in the Bill Condon-directed "Kinsey."
