Sony BMG Music cues int'l management team

BMG's Tim Bowen will oversee Sony BMG U.K./Canada/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa; Sony Music's Richard Denekamp takes over Sony BMG Asia; BMG Intl. Prexy Maarten Steinkamp assumes Sony BMG Continental Europe; and Sony's Frank Welzer takes Sony BMG Latin.
All four report to Michael Smellie, chief operating officer, Sony BMG Entertainment.

Extensive experience
Bowen, chairman and CEO, BMG U.K. and Ireland, since early 2002, was a former exec VP for Universal Music Intl. and senior veep of marketing and business affairs. Prior to that he served as managing director of Columbia Records, U.K.
Denekamp has served as president, Asia, for Sony Music Intl. since 1997. He joined CBS Records/Sony Music Holland in 1986 as deputy managing director, and was named general manager of the record division in September 1987. In 1989 he became managing director, Sony. In 1994, Denekamp joined SMI headquarters in New York as senior VP, Sony Music Intl.
Steinkamp, who oversaw operations in more than 30 territories as president, international, for BMG, has also served since early this year as president, BMG Germany/Switzerland/Austria. He joined BMG in 1988 as junior press promoter for RCA Netherlands.
Welzer, chairman and CEO, Latin America, Sony Music Intl., since 2002, joined CBS Records in 1969, becoming VP, business development, for CBS Records Intl. in 1977. He was named VP and general manager of Sony Discos in 1987, and its president in 1990.
Sony BMG Asia will not include Sony BMG's operations in Japan, BMG Funhouse, which will continue to be overseen by Tim Prescott, executive VP and chief marketing officer, and managed by company president Hide Tashiro.
