TOKYO -- True to its arthouse selection policy, alternative film festival Tokyo Filmex unveiled an original lineup Thursday for its fifth edition running Nov. 23-28.

Iran dominates the competish with three entries out of 10, with Japan, China, Thailand, India, South Korea, Lebanon and Israel all with one pic each.

Although the ¥1 million ($9,000) prize cannot compare with the $90,000 offered by the Tokyo Intl. Film Festival, Filmex has gained enough influence to draw up-and-coming Asian helmers to its competition.

Special screenings include "Canary" by Japanese rising star Akihiko Shiota and Amos Gitai's "Promised Land." A retrospective presents films by vet helmer Tomu Uchida, who has achieved fame only inside Japan.
