Sat channel Sky One comes to 'Rescue'

Firefighter drama is latest F/X pick-up

LONDON -- Satcaster BSkyB's channel Sky One has picked up FX drama "Rescue Me," starring Denis Leary, from Sony Pictures TV Intl.

The acquisition is part of a strategy to reinforce Sky One's status as the U.K.'s leading nonterrestrial channel by ramping up its roster of top U.S. shows.

Its lineup includes "Nip/Tuck," and it recently finished running the latest series of "24."

David Smyth, Sky One head of acquisitions for drama and comedy, said: "With 'Nip/Tuck' and 'The Shield,' FX quickly established themselves as the new buzz network. 'Rescue Me' cements their reputation for producing raw and edgy drama and we're confident that the U.S. success will be mirrored when the series debuts in the U.K. in early 2005."

"Rescue Me" is set in the post-9/11 world of New York's firefighters.
