Project tells the true story of Tierney Cahill, a sixth-grade teacher from Reno, who in an attempt to educate her students on the political process and inspire her civics class, took on a challenge by her students and ran for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District seat in 2000. Cahill's students ended up running her campaign.
Cahill ultimately lost to her opponent, Republican Jim Gibbons, who was seeking a third term and ran unopposed the last time, but the single mother of three kids ended up winning 35% of the popular vote and went on to influence public policy in the state.
Cahill is now running again, campaigning as a candidate for the Nevada State Assembly, District 25.
Scribes Shusterman and Elfman will pen "Class Act" as an inspirational comedy. They recently rewrote "As You Like It" for Walden Media. Revolution's Marisa Yeres brought "Class Act" into Revolution's New York offices, which is headed by partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.
"Elaine always loves to develop a character story that's filled with emotion and is about a real person who makes a difference, overcomes something and teaches us something," Yeres said. "(Cahill's) story couldn't be more inspirational."
Underground Films' Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson, who also manage scribes Shusterman and Elfman, are in final talks to produce "Class Act," which would become Underground's second film set up at Revolution, where the shingle is also set to exec produce "Zoom's Academy," with Tim Allen to star and Team Todd producing.
Underground is also readying to start production on "Black Autumn," with Phoenix Pictures. Pic is set up at Fox 2000, with Michael Apted directing.
