Based on a section in John Irving's novel "A Widow For One Year," "Door" turns on the irrevocable breakdown of a marriage after the death of the family's two teenage sons. Pic opened in the U.S. in July, but the closing gala screening at San Sebastian will be its international premiere.
San Sebastian is rounded off by another newly announced film, Istvan Szabo's "Being Julia," which plays out of competition. Scripted by Ronald Harwood ("The Pianist") and set in the theater world of London in 1938, pic toplines Annette Bening as a leading theater actress who turns the tables on a caddish young lover.
"Julia" will also open the Toronto Film Fest on Sept. 9. San Sebastian runs Sept.17-25.
