Partnership sets slate

GMM joins forces with Phenomena

BANGKOK -- Thailand's leading film producer GMM Tai Hub (GTH), has formed a joint venture with Phenomena Co. in order to strengthen its position in the market.

Dubbed Phenomena Motion Pictures, the partnership is 51% owned by GTH and 49% owned by Phenomena, an award-winning ad production house.

GTH will handle distribution and marketing for the new venture. Yodphet Sudsawad, managing director of Phenomena Motion Pictures, says the firm has four titles on its slate for production next year. They include "AIDS Diary," based on a true story of a local HIV-positive woman, and action comedy "Gear 2 Grave," about an organization devoted to collecting dead bodies.

Also planned is "Life With Mission," about a prisoner who writes a Thai-English dictionary; and "My School," about a boarding school student investigating tales of ghosts in the school pool.

Production budgets range between $500,000 and $1 million. Phenomena enters the movie biz this year with thriller "Shutter" as its first film, set for release Sept 9.
