Chart to track Internet tunes

Ranking will be based on Napster usage

Napster and U.K. rock music commercial station Virgin Radio are launching the country's first online music chart on national radio Aug. 29.

The chart will count down the top 20 tracks taken each week from Napster's 750,000 songs, based on permanent and subscription downloads, and full-length streams.

"As well as hitting our core demographic and having millions of listeners, Virgin Radio enjoys over 1 million unique online visitors a month, making it an ideal brand partner for Napster," said Leanne Sharman, Napster VP and U.K. general manager.

Napster bowed in the U.K. on May 20, the first of the major U.S. online music services to launch in the country.
