Lions Gate has tapped Coolidge to rewrite and make his feature directing debut on the comedy, about a duel between two slackers who become model Costco workers when they hear a new hottie may date the store's employee of the month.
After breaking into Hollywood as an actor -- he starred in the Sundance pic "Possum's Switch" and played Paul Hogan's nephew in a series of Subaru ads -- Coolidge began writing scripts with partner Joe Jarvis. They made several sales and got one pic made -- "Sorority Boys." Pic failed to pop for Touchstone, and the scribes went their separate ways.
Coolidge, who wanted to be a director, wrote and directed "Queen for a Day," a short about a gym instructor who pretends to be gay so he can drape himself all over the beauties at the club. Pic impressed Lions Gate execs Michael Burns and John Sacchi. Burns was a producer on "Possum's Switch" and knew Coolidge. He gave him his first crack at directing.
Coolidge is scripting an untitled comic pitch for New Line and H2F Entertainment as well as "That's Amore," a DreamWorks Animation pic, and the Revolution Studios comedy "Camp Sachem."
