Kasdan-penned 'Women' to begin filming next spring

Filming will begin next spring, with Warner Independent Pictures distributing. Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and David Kanter produce.
Kasdan, who also wrote the script, becomes the third member of his clan to make a film at Castle Rock. His father, Lawrence, directed "Dreamcatcher" there and next directs Tom Hanks in an adaptation of Richard Russo's novel "The Risk Pool." Jon's brother, Jake, made his directing debut on "Zero Effect" and is writing another project for the company.
Though movies appear to be in the genes, Jonathan Kasdan cut his teeth writing for the smallscreen on such shows as "Freaks and Geeks" and "Dawson's Creek." He worked on this script for five years before showing it to Castle Rock's Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer. It is heavily influenced by Kasdan's mentors, Cameron Crowe, James L. Brooks and his father, who is exec producing.
"It is about a comedy screenwriter from L.A. who, in the wake of a tumultuous breakup, heads to the suburbs of Michigan to take care of his ailing, eccentric grandmother," Kasdan said. There, he becomes involved with a house full of women across the street.
Ryan committed to the film a month ago, expecting to shoot it before joining Kevin Costner this fall in a Stone Village-produced adaptation of T.C. Boyle novel "The Tortilla Curtain."
Kasdan postponed the film to wait for Brody. The 26-year-old was the director's top choice but was unavailable because of his series commitment. They'll wait for his series hiatus, with Brody taking on his first film starring role. Ryan will make "The Tortilla Curtain" next.
