Harden loves 'Hate' pilot at Showtime

Thesp to play tough NYPD division head

Marcia Gay Harden is in final negotiations to topline the Showtime drama pilot "Hate."

Project, from exec producers Paris Barclay and James DeMonaco and "American Beauty" producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, revolves around the NYPD's hate crimes unit.

Harden will portray Chief Jackie Mantello, the tough division head who struggles to balance the demands of her job with the needs of her troubled son.

Rounding out the cast are Eamonn Walker, Jeremy Davidson, Rosa Arredondo, Ken Leung, Daniel Saul and Aisha Hinds.

Barclay and DeMonaco wrote the script, with Barclay set to direct. Production is slated to begin this month.

Harden, who earned an Oscar nom last year for her work in "Mystic River" and won in 2001 for her supporting work in "Pollock," last appeared in the features "Mona Lisa Smile" and "Welcome to Mooseport."

Thesp recently signed on to the IFC ensemble drama "American Gun," with Forest Whitaker and Donald Sutherland, and next stars in Dylan Kidd's "P.S. I Love You" alongside Laura Linney and Topher Grace.
