Toon web Animax Asia minds its Tees and Quus

Net unleashes new skein with original characters

HONG KONG -- Japanese anime channel Animax Asia has launched a series of eight 40-second animated vignettes featuring its first original characters, Quu and Tee.

Designed by James Speck of Cowboy Water Design, Quu and Tee are the only remaining members of two rival clans from another dimension. They have special powers fed by solar energy or light.

Animax, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, is also a sponsor of Japanese Anime Week, which runs until Aug. 16 and is organized by the Hong Kong Intl. Film Fest Society.

Anime Week will have 11 screenings, including "Metropolis," based on the manga by Tezuka Osamu, who created Astro Boy.

Animax is now on every pay TV platform in Hong Kong with its recent addition to Now.com.hk. The channel, which launched Jan. 1, is available in 14 million homes across the region.
