AB Sat snaps up croc doc
French TV group AB Sat has picked up 40 hours of programming for its new German channel Terra Nova.
The nature and wildlife weblet will be operated by Onyx, AB Sat's German TV subsidiary in Cologne, and replaces Onyx's music channel, also known as Onyx, in September.
Deal, announced Thursday by Granada Intl. managing director Nadine Nohr, includes documentary fare such as "Killer Crocs of Costa Rica," "Before It's Too Late, "Savage Planet," "Savage Seas" and "Ocean Wilds."
Granada Intl., repped by sales VP Toby Melling, has also inked deals with German music TV group Viva for its science gameshow "Brainiac" and licensed the fact-based drama "Wall of Silence" to pubcasters ARD and Arte. "Wall of Silence," starring James Nesbitt ("Bloody Sunday"), recounts the true story of a father's fight for justice following his son's murder.
Pubcaster Swedish Television (SVT) has acquired the first two seasons of Mike Bullen's comedy/drama "Life Begins," starring Caroline Quentin as a mom coping with two kids after her husband walks out. SVT also picked up "Wall of Silence."
Granada has wrapped an agreement with SBS Broadcasting outfit TVNorge for fly-on-the-wall documentary series "Airline," making Norway the last Scandi territory to pick up the rights to the format, which follows the staff and passengers of low-cost air outfit EasyJet.
