Turner awarded IBC honor

Kudos attempt to shrug off techie image

The Intl. Broadcasting Convention has awarded media pioneer and CNN founder Ted Turner its highest kudos, the IBC Intl. Honor for Excellence.

It's the second year in which the IBC has thrown off its techie image to center on the creation, management and delivery of entertainment content.

An international jury lead by the IBC Council chairman Peter Owen commended Turner's ``influence as a visionary who polarized opinion on big issues.''

Turner accepted the award from Michael Bunce, chairman of the IBC Partnership Board, July 22 in New York.

The 28th IBC kicks off Sept. 9 in Amsterdam for a six-day run. Last year it drew 44,000 delegates from 120 countries and over 1,000 exhibitors.
