Regency Enterprises and Fox 2000 Pictures have optioned Ted Naifeh's "Courtney Crumrin" series of comicbooks to develop as a potential fantasy franchise.
Series follows a teen who must contend with being a social outcast at a snobby new school while simultaneously moving in with her warlock uncle and learning how to harness magic.
Makeup and creature f/x maven Stan Winston will produce the pic with Brian Gilbert. Sheryl Longin, who penned Columbia's 1999 Nixon-themed teen comedy "Dick," has been hired to write the script.
Regency's Stacy Maes will oversee the project's development for Regency production prexy Sanford Panitch; Maria Faillace will supervise its development for Fox 2000 topper Elizabeth Gabler.
Deal includes Naifeh's comicbooks "Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things," "Courtney Crumrin and the Coven of Mystics" and "Courtney Crumrin in the Twilight Kingdom." Books are published by Oni Press.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
