The Palazzo, where competition films are screened, will get an outdoor 33ft screen on which images of the lagoon and sea will be projected.
The glitterati will walk in on a red carpet past 60 columns each topped with a Golden Lion to comemmorate the top prize given out in each of the fest's previous years.
The look is being created by architect Matteo Thun and Dante Ferretti, Italo production designer used by Martin Scorsese, Federico Fellini and Pier Paolo Pasolini. It's a big change from previous Venice topper Moritz de Hadeln's "wave" that greeted last year's guests.
The festival runs Sept. 1 to 11.
