What is known is that Harvey Weinstein is engaged in tense meetings with Disney's Michael Eisner over the future of Miramax. What is also known is that Disney has choked off production and marketing funds for its subsidiary.
But here is a list of the unknowns: Will Harvey Weinstein be motivated to depart Disney, leaving behind a lucrative deal with a rich library to launch a new venture? Would his brother Bob Weinstein, the guru of Dimension, go with Harvey or stay behind? And finally, will the Weinsteins try to link up with MGM, which is also in play?
One theory: Harvey would assume command of MGM distribution and marketing machinery, while Sony closes its deal for the library.
The one thing none of the rumor-mongers want to admit is that they don't have the answers to any of these questions. Talks are still going on and, until they are consummated, the theories remain just that -- theoretical.
