Paramount's decided against using "What's It All About Alfie," title of the Burt Bacharach song from the 1966 pic, as the new film's title. Par's now settled on using the same title as the original.
"Alfie" stars Jude Law, Marisa Tomei, Susan Sarandon, Nia Long and Omar Epps; Charles Shyer directed, along with co-writing and co-producing with Elaine Pope. Par plans an Oct. 22 release.
Bacharach won a 1967 Grammy for instrumental arrangement for the perf by his orchestra in the original, and Bacharach and Hal David, who wrote the lyrics, were nominated for the song Oscar. Pic was a critical hit and also garnered Oscar noms for picture, actor (Michael Caine), supporting actress (Vivien Merchant) and adapted screenplay (Bill Naughton).
