Duo in Deep with Par

First-look deal for 'Honeymooners' team

Deep River Prods., the autonomous 4-year-old shingle operated by veteran producer David Friendly and financier Marc Turtletaub, is headed for Paramount.

Deep River is expected to operate under a first-look deal at Par, where it has been developing a contemporary feature version of "The Honeymooners" for the past two years.

"The Honeymooners" is tentatively set to begin lensing in late summer in Ireland, starring Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps in the Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton roles, respectively, with John Schultz ("Like Mike") directing.

Deep River also has set up insurance comedy "Bad Risk" and children's action-adventure "Superkid" at Par.

Friendly and Turtletaub formed the production company after Turtletaub reaped a windfall from selling the Money Store. Friendly had worked as an exec for Imagine and produced films for John Davis before getting his own Fox deal, which led to "Here on Earth" and "Big Momma's House."

Deep River was a producer on New Line's "Laws of Attraction," which grossed $17 million domestically and was shot partially in Ireland.

The shingle has more than two dozen projects in development. It recently set up an untitled drama about Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball with Robert Redford's Wildwood Prods.; Redford is slotted to portray Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey.
