Maverick 'Craving' tome

Romance deals with class and celebrity

Madonna and Guy Oseary's Maverick Films shingle has acquired the film rights to Elise Abrams Miller's debut novel "Star Craving Mad," published in May by Warner Books.

Book concerns a first-grade teacher at an exclusive Manhattan private school who falls for the father of the adorable new kid in class. Dad also happens to be a famous actor.

Pic will be produced by Maverick inhouse producer Jay Polstein, along with Maverick partner Oseary and prexy Mark Morgan.

"I think the film can be the decade's 'Shampoo' -- a vivisection of class and celebrity as seen through the eyes of a not-so-innocent outsider," Polstein said.

Maverick films in development include "Charlie Bartlett," which Jay Roach is attached to direct for Fox Searchlight, and "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief," based on the children's book by Rick Riordan, for Fox 2000.
