Impact in 'Driver' seat for movie

Co. also producing Yuen-helmed 'DOA'

By ED MEZA

BERLIN -- Impact Pictures is continuing its string of videogame adaptations with "Driver," based on Atari's bestselling franchise.

Impact co-founders Jeremy Bolt and Paul Anderson will produce the pic with Constantin Film's Bernd Eichinger from a screenplay by James DeMonaco ("The Negotiator," "Assault on Precinct 13"), Todd Harthan and James Roday.

Robert Kulzer, Constantin's Los Angeles head of production, is exec producing.

Constantin subsid Impact enjoyed success with 2002's "Resident Evil," based on the Capcom game of the same name, and followed with "Resident Evil -- Apocalypse," which Sony Screen Gems will release in the U.S. in September. Companies are also producing "DOA: Dead or Alive," an adaptation of Tecmo's hit fighting game, with Corey Yuen ("The Transporter" series) directing.

Atari's "Driver" franchise has sold over 12 million units. Latest version of the game has just been released.
