Crystal will write the script with Quinton Peeples. Crystal's shingle, Face Prods., will produce.
Crystal's last feature directorial outing was 1995's "Forget Paris," in which he starred opposite Debra Winger and wrote with Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.
He received Emmy and DGA noms for his direction of the 2001 HBO baseball drama "61*."
Although Crystal provided the starring voice of walking eyeball Mike Wazowski in Disney's 2001 "Monsters, Inc.," his last live-action role was in the 2002 sequel "Analyze That," which he also exec produced.
Crystal made his feature directing bow 12 years ago with "Mr. Saturday Night," which he starred in and wrote with Ganz and Mandel. That pic was released by Columbia but went through New Line Home Video for its subsequent vid release.
His other writing credits include "America's Sweethearts" and "City Slickers II."
Peeples wrote and directed the 1996 "Joyride," which starred Tobey Maguire. He also adapted the CBS TV movie "The Moving of Sophia Myles" from John MacNicholas' play and wrote the Comedy Central movie "Home Fires."
