Col's mad about 'You'

Douglas' Furthur Films to produce Hudson vehicle

Columbia Pictures has set a remake of the 1954 comedy "It Should Happen to You" that will be turned into a starring vehicle for Kate Hudson.

"The Princess Diaries" scribe Gina Wendkos is set to write the script. Michael Douglas' Furthur Films and Hudson's Cosmic Entertainment will produce.

The remake will be a contempo romantic comedy about a young woman who comes to New York determined to find fame. The original Ray Stark-produced pic starred Judy Holliday, Jack Lemmon (in his screen debut) and Peter Lawford, with George Cukor directing.

Wendkos, whose scripting credits also include "Coyote Ugly," pitched a take on the original that Hudson liked. Furthur Films' Marcy Drogin and Cosmic's Scott Martin will steer the pic with Col's Amy Baer and Shannon Gaulding.

Douglas won't appear in the pic, but has long pined to produce a remake. "I've waited 20 years for a writer to come up with the right concept, and Gina delivered it," Douglas said. "I couldn't wish for a better choice than Kate Hudson in the starring role."
