James Arnold

Original member of 1950s singing group the Four Lads

James "Jimmie" Arnold, an original member of 1950s singing group the Four Lads, died June 15 in Sacramento, Calif., of lung cancer. He was 72.

Born in Toronto, Arnold created the group that became the Four Lads with three of his classmates from St. Michael's Cathedral Catholic School.

The Four Lads went on to record such hits as "Moments to Remember," "Standing on the Corner (Watching All the Girls Go By)" and "Down by the Riverside." During the 1950s and '60s, the Four Lads earned five gold records.

Arnold retired from the group after 30 years and lived in Sacramento for the past 23 years, where he founded the James Arnold School of Voice studio.

He is survived by his wife Linda; four children; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
