Smrz takes helm for 'Loyalty'

Woo, Chang will produce Navy SEAL pic

Brian Smrz, longtime second unit director for John Woo, will make his feature-directing bow with "The Last Loyalty" at Avi Lerner's Millennium Films.

Woo and his Lion Rock partner, Terence Chang, will serve as executive producers on the pic. It's based on the true story of a Navy SEAL and the highly trained German shepherd scout dog that changes his life. Jeffrey Moldavon wrote the script.

Producers are Martini Films' Johnny Martin and Two Sticks Prods.' Richard Salvatore and David Ornston.

Millennium's Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson also executive produce.

Smrz most recently did second-unit work on "Taxi" for 20th Century Fox and soon will begin production on "The Fantastic Four." His other credits include "Paycheck," "Windtalkers" and "Mission: Impossible 2."
